What You Need To Know About Skin Pigmentation?

Everyone of us wish to have that beautiful skin-perfect complexion with ever-lasting radiance and regardless of how confident you are that laugh lines represent a well-lived life, it is difficult to say the same about those not-so-subtle brown-coloured patches on your face. This skin discoloration, commonly known as skin pigmentation is often a result of sun damage, hormonal changes, genetics predisposition, medications (such as birth control pills), pregnancy, or skin aging, just to name a few.

What happens when you have skin pigmentation?

If you look into the mirror and notice immediately that your face looks dull with an uneven skin tone, and/or dark spots due to acne marks or skin cancer.

Or, worse yet, your family or friends mentioned that you look tired all the time and you look older than your actual age.   Many think that pigmentation simply refers to the dark spots on the face. However, there is, in fact, more than one type of skin pigmentation and depending on its type, its appearance differs. For example: Sun spots, Melasma,Freckles, Post-Acne Pigmentation, Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation or worse, skin cancers.

Why am I facing skin pigmentation problems?

Everyone can achieve a flawless complexion too and sticking to the basics can help you achieve that. With that said, you may be puzzled as to why despite your efforts in applying sunblock every single day, new pigmentation marks appear and existing ones become darker and bigger in size. The answer is simple – pigmentation does not surface overnight. It is the accumulation of the dark pigment, melanin, in our skin that gradually leads to the appearance of dark facial spots. Melanin production, in turn, is triggered by sun exposure. Thus, to have a clear complexion, you should never underestimate the importance of sun protection; starting early is the best thing you can do for your skin.
