Brighten and Revive Your Eyes With Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

If you’re self-conscious about dark circles, undereye bags, or a perpetually tired and wrinkled eye area, our state-of-the-art blepharoplasty undereye surgery is the effective solution to transform and rejuvenate the eye area.

Using advanced technology and expert techniques, our industry-leading cosmetic surgeons can help you refresh and reinvigorate tired, drooping eyes, leaving you with a beautifully fresh and more youthful appearance.

A blepharoplasty procedure can also help those with impaired vision by removing excess fatty tissue and loose skin around the eyes.

Blepharoplasty is a safe surgical procedure designed to reverse signs of ageing by removing excess sagging skin, lifting drooping eyelids, and eliminating puffy eyes to ensure you look well-rested and radiant.

Your Blepharoplasty at a glance:

  • Overview: A surgical procedure that removes loose skin and excess fatty tissue from the eye area.
  • Treatment time: 60-90mins
  • Downtime: 7-10 days for upper eyelid surgery; 10-14 days for lower eyelid surgery
  • Results: 2-3 weeks; can last 5-10 years or, in some cases, a lifetime

Loose, drooping skin, puffiness and dark circles around the eyes can all make us appear far older than we are. In some cases, drooping skin on the eyelid can even interfere with our vision.

By removing excess sagging skin from the upper and lower eyelids, blepharoplasty surgery is a safe and simple way to achieve a revitalised and younger-looking appearance, make the eyes look brighter and more awake, and – in some cases – improve vision.

Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper eyelid, lower eyelid, or both, and may be carried out under local or general anaesthetic depending on the nature of the procedure. The surgery generally takes between one hour and 90 minutes.

Blepharoplasty: Frequently Asked Questions

Your blepharoplasty surgery will be carried out in the comfort of one of our state-of-the-art Sydney clinics, by a highly-trained surgeon.

The procedure will begin with the application of numbing medication to ensure you feel relaxed and comfortable throughout the treatment.

During the surgery, your surgeon will cut along the fold of the eyelid, remove excess skin, muscle and fat, then close the cut. If your procedure involves correcting a drooping upper eyelid, your surgeon may also perform ptosis to provide extra support to the eyebrow.

Your blepharoplasty surgery will usually take between 60 and 90 minutes.

Post-surgery bruising and swelling will generally subside within 10 to 14 days, after which you’ll notice a significantly more youthful and awake appearance. Any surgical scarring you experience can take a few months to fade.

For some people, the results of a blepharoplasty surgery will last a lifetime. For others, results can remain for at least 5-10 years.

After your surgery, you’ll be monitored for a short while to ensure there are no complications and will then be able to return home the same day.

You may experience the following temporary symptoms following your surgery:

  • Blurred vision
  • Watery eyes
  • Extra sensitivity to light
  • Double vision
  • Puffy eyelids
  • Swelling and bruising around the eyes

Your surgeon will provide you with detailed post-surgery instructions in order to minimise pain and discomfort, as well as to avoid any issues. These may include the following:

  • Applying ice packs to the eyes regularly
  • Cleaning the eyelids as per the surgeon’s instructions
  • Using prescribed eye drops
  • Avoiding heavy lifting, strenuous activities and swimming for a week
  • Not smoking
  • Not rubbing your eyes
  • Avoiding wearing contact lenses for two weeks
  • Wearing dark sunglasses to protect your eyes from sun and wind

As with any surgery, there are some potential risks involved with undergoing a blepharoplasty procedure. These include:

  • Dry, irritated eyes
  • Infection
  • Scarring
  • Skin discolouration
  • Temporary blurred vision or, rarely, loss of eyesight
  • Risks associated with surgery in general, e.g. reaction to anaesthetic or blood clots
  • A requirement for follow-up surgery

Your surgeon will discuss the procedure with you in great detail to ensure you are fully aware of what’s involved and any potential side effects.

Our highly personalised level of service means that we’ll tailor a treatment plan to suit your specific needs, concerns, and desired results. As a result, treatment pricing will vary from patient to patient.

During your initial consultation, one of our trained doctors will conduct an assessment of your eyes, discuss your situation, and develop a customised plan for your treatment. This will include a detailed breakdown of costs, timeframes and what to expect.
