Case Study: Xanthelasma Removal – Restoring Confidence and Clarity

Story

A young lady came to Medical Aesthetics 360° feeling increasingly self-conscious about yellowish plaques that had developed on her upper eyelids. These small, soft patches — known as xanthelasma — had become a source of frustration, as they were difficult to conceal with makeup and often drew unwanted attention in photos and daily interactions.

Although she had her cholesterol levels checked and found them to be normal, the xanthelasma persisted. Over time, she became more aware of them, describing how they made her feel less confident and less comfortable meeting people face-to-face.

Despite thinking about treatment many times, she had hesitated due to concerns about scarring and recovery time. During her consultation with Dr Chun Yen Huang (MED0001187421), these concerns were addressed in detail. Dr Huang explained that recovery from xanthelasma removal is typically 5–7 days, using fine 7-0 sutures — the same type used in delicate eyelid procedures such as blepharoplasty — ensuring precision and minimal scarring.

Feeling reassured by the careful explanation and personalised approach, the patient decided to proceed. The procedure was performed by a trained therapist under Dr Huang’s supervision, using refined microsurgical techniques for optimal healing and cosmetic outcome.

She was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and tolerable the process was. Within a week, the area healed beautifully with minimal scarring and virtually no residual pigmentation. The patient expressed great satisfaction with her results — delighted to see a smoother, clearer appearance and relieved to finally be free from the insecurity that had bothered her for years.
