Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments Sydney
Why choose Sciton BBL for IPL treatment?
Along with the effects of the natural ageing process, our skin is also affected by environmental and lifestyle factors. Topical treatments can only go so far. Eventually, your skin will require additional support to look fresh, smooth and supple.
Sciton has created Broad Band Light (BBL), an innovative technology that uses light therapy to safely treat sun damage and signs of ageing, leaving patients with a more youthful appearance.
BBL treatments can be used to treat a variety of different conditions, including age spots, lines and wrinkles, redness and freckles. It can even reduce the appearance of unwanted hair and acne.
The BBL system uses pulsed light to perform photo rejuvenation therapy. Depending on what needs to be treated, a specific wavelength or filter is selected to achieve the desired result. The heat that’s produced by the applicator is absorbed by the skin cells, which stimulates the collagen production process.
Following just one session, you can expect your skin to look and feel smoother – it will also have a more vibrant appearance.

Ideal Candidates for IPL and BBL Treatments
Men and women who want a clearer and smoother complexion, fewer lines and wrinkles and natural glow can benefit from BBL treatments. Every BBL treatment can be customised to suit each patient’s specific requirements. Fair-skinned patients do tend to see better results because the Sciton BBL system targets pigments responsible for producing darker skin.
BBL treatments are gentle, safe and completely non-invasive. Prior to your treatment, it’s important to protect your skin from the sun and not use tanning beds. If your skin is sunburned, it can’t be treated. Any tanning lotions should also be eliminated from your beauty regime a month before your appointment.
While little to no discomfort is experienced during treatment, a topical anaesthetic cream can be applied 30 minutes prior to your session to make it as comfortable as possible.
Before the BBL applicator is applied to the skin, a gel will be applied to the treatment areas and patients will need to wear a set of protective eyewear. Thereafter, the applicator is applied to the skin, delivering light at precise pulses that will target pigmented and damaged skin cells and tissue. The process also stimulates collagen production, which creates gradual results.
The entire procedure shouldn’t take longer than 30 – 60 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. This also excludes the time required for the anaesthetic to take effect.
The severity of the concerns you want to treat will determine how many sessions will be required. Most patients need 1 – 3 BBL sessions spaced 2 – 4 weeks apart to achieve their desired outcome.
Directly after treatment, patients can expect any imperfections to appear slightly darker. There will also be some mild redness and swelling that lasts for several hours. Over the course of the next few weeks, darkened spots will flake off and broken capillaries will slowly disappear. You will also notice an improvement in skin tone.
The areas that are generally treated using Sciton BBL system include the face, neck, back, legs, arms, hands and decolletage. The specific types of concerns that can be addressed, including:
- Pigmentation & Sun Damage. Freckles and pigmentation can be broken down and reduced.
- Lines and wrinkles. BBL treatments can be used to treat some of the most common signs of ageing, resulting in smoother, more supple skin.
- Redness & Rosacea. Reduce the appearance of broken capillaries and symptoms associated with rosacea.
- Active Acne. BBL treatments effectively destroy the bacteria that causes inflammation, redness and acne.
Patience will be required before you will see noticeable results after a BBL treatment plan. After each session, your skin will be slightly red and be sensitive to the touch – much like a mild sunburn. This is particularly common amongst patients treating sun damage.
Patients will need to wait for all redness and swelling to subside. Any darker patches of skin will start to flake after 1 – 2 weeks, which is when you can start seeing a difference. In most instances, patients will need to wait about a month to see the full effects of their treatments.
It’s also important to remember that some patients will require several treatments to achieve the outcome they have in mind.
