Thermage FLX Sydney

Why choose Thermage FLX

A modern lifestyle can really take its toll on your skin. Sleep deprivation, stress, environmental factors and the general ageing process can all cause lines, wrinkles and sagging.

Thermage FLX is a radiofrequency-based treatment that’s designed to tighten and lift the skin by increasing collagen production. The Thermage system creates a bulk heating effect that directly targets the layers of the dermis that are responsible for producing collagen. Collagen levels increase over the course of several months, resulting in a more toned, refreshed and lifted appearance. Because the bulk heating also travels along the fibrous septea, it gives the face and body better contours.

Depending on the severity of the lines, wrinkles and sagging, patients are able to achieve the desired outcome after just one treatment without any downtime.

Ideal Candidates for Thermage FLX Treatments

A Thermage candidate is ideal for someone with mild to moderate skin laxity who doesn’t have excess fat or loose muscles. It’s also ideal for anyone who wants to plump and rejuvenate their skin. If any sun damage is present, Thermage treatments will only be effective if it’s moderate. Treatments are also more effective if the patient is a non-smoker.
While Thermage FLX can be used to treat most areas of the body and face, the applicator can’t be applied to tattooed skin.

To determine whether you would benefit from this treatment, it’s best to schedule a personalised consultation.

Once it’s determined that you’re an ideal candidate for this treatment, the treatment area will be cleansed. A grid will also be transferred to the area for guidance and accuracy purposes.

The Thermage handpiece will then be applied to the area, which will create a cooling sensation as well as a heating sensation and a gentle vibration. The heat is felt when the deep layers of your skin start reaching the desired temperature for collagen remodelling. To ensure maximum comfort, your clinician will check in with you regarding the temperature throughout your treatment. As an additional step, you can also take over-the-counter pain medication 2 hours before your treatment. However, most patients are able to endure the entire treatment without the need for pain relief.

The average Thermage FLX treatment takes about 90 minutes to complete. Patients are free to return to their usual routine directly after their session. This means you can also apply makeup, exercise and bath or shower as you usually would. A quality at-home skincare routine and sun protection are highly recommended though.

There are very few side effects associated with Thermage FLX. Some of the most common after-effects include redness, swelling and bumps on the treatment site. However, any side effects disappear within a few days. All potential side effects will be discussed during your consultation.
Repeat sessions will be required every 12 months in order to maintain the effects of the treatment.

Thermage FLX treatments are mostly used to treat lines, wrinkles and skin sagging across the face and neck, particularly the eye area and jaw (jowls). Treatments can also be used to target loose skin on the body after pregnancy or significant weight loss. Some of the most common areas that are treated include the arms, knees, abdomen and buttock.

Very often, Thermage sessions form part of a personalised treatment plan. To achieve a smoother, more youthful appearance, Thermage is often combined with cosmetic injections, including dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections. While they can’t be performed at the same time, they can increase the chances of achieving more noticeable, longer-lasting results.

The results of your Thermage treatment will start developing after a week and become more noticeable over the course of 2 – 6 months. If you want to maintain your results, a repeat treatment will be required after about 12 months. You can also do the following to maintain your results in between treatments:

  • Select skincare products that are suited to your skin type and concerns
  • Opt for creams that contain antioxidants to protect your skin from free radicals
  • Wear a high-quality sunscreen on a daily basis
  • Make a point of exfoliating your skin on a weekly basis to encourage cell turnover
