Ultherapy PRIME Sydney: non-surgical skin tightening

Concerned about sagging skin, a softer jawline or neck laxity? Begin with an assessment of what has changed and whether Ultherapy PRIME fits your goals.

Ultherapy PRIME uses microfocused ultrasound with real-time visualisation. At MA360, consultations in Chatswood and Hurstville explore suitability, realistic results, recovery and cost before a treatment plan is agreed.

Start with your concern

Where Ultherapy fits into skin tightening in Sydney

People considering facial rejuvenation or anti-ageing care often notice more than one change. Identifying the cause of sagging or reduced definition helps make treatment choices more meaningful.

Skin laxity

Loose-looking skin

Reduced firmness beneath the chin or through the neck may prompt a discussion about skin tightening. Your clinician assesses the area and degree of laxity before considering an ultrasound-based plan.

Facial contours

A less defined jawline

Jowling and a softer lower face can involve skin, deeper support, volume and under-chin fullness. A jawline concern is not automatically a skin-tightening problem. Read about jawline assessment.

Skin quality

Texture and surface change

Pigmentation, pores and surface texture need their own assessment. They may require a different approach from lifting or tightening. The aim is to match care to the concern you actually want to address.

Still comparing technologies? Our skin tightening and non-surgical lifting guide for Sydney brings together the wider range of options. This page focuses on Ultherapy PRIME.

Brow · under the chin · neck

Which areas can be assessed for Ultherapy PRIME?

The treatment area, anatomy and intended use guide the plan. A request for a “full face” treatment does not mean every part of the face should receive ultrasound.

Brow position

A brow-lifting assessment considers brow position and surrounding anatomy. Treatment must not be delivered over the eyes or where energy could reach the eye. Eyelid concerns may need a different consultation.

Under-chin skin laxity

Loose-looking skin beneath the chin is different from a pocket of fat. Your consultation separates laxity from fullness before discussing a suitable approach. Explore assessment of double-chin concerns.

Neck and jawline concerns

Assessment considers how lax neck or under-chin tissue affects definition. Visible neck bands, substantial excess skin and deeper tissue changes may need another pathway. Our neck-band assessment guide explains a different contributing concern.

Décolletage lines

The Australian manufacturer information includes improvement of décolletage lines and wrinkles among the system’s indications. Ask the team whether this area is offered at your chosen MA360 location and whether it is appropriate for you.

Treatment areas and limitations are described in the Australian manufacturer information (opens in a new tab). The exact area and clinic availability are confirmed during consultation.

Ultrasound with visualisation

How Ultherapy PRIME works

Imaging and treatment have different roles: the clinician views the tissue, then plans where ultrasound energy is delivered. Technique and patient selection remain central.

01 · Visualise

Assess the tissue

Real-time ultrasound imaging gives the clinician a view beneath the skin surface to help assess tissue layers and contact before treatment delivery.

02 · Personalise

Plan the treatment

The area, depth and distribution of treatment lines are selected around the assessment. More lines or a deeper setting are not automatically a better treatment.

03 · Review

Allow gradual change

Focused ultrasound delivers heat at selected tissue depths to stimulate a collagen response. Remodelling develops over time. Progress is reviewed against your starting point and goals; results may be modest or limited.

PRIME and the earlier Ultherapy platform: MA360’s Ultherapy experience spans the earlier platform and PRIME. Your consultation focuses on the current device, your anatomy and the proposed plan. Evidence about microfocused ultrasound should not be read as proof that PRIME produces a superior outcome for every patient.

Individual suitability

Is Ultherapy right for your skin and goals?

A consultation may be useful if you have noticed mild to moderate laxity and want to understand the possibilities and limitations of a non-surgical approach. Assessment covers your skin, anatomy, medical history, previous procedures and expectations.

What you want to change

Bring your main concern: brow position, loose-looking under-chin skin, neck laxity or reduced definition. Explain the amount of change you hope to see and any upcoming events.

When another approach may fit better

Significant excess skin, deeper tissue descent, volume loss or under-chin fullness can change the recommendation. Ultherapy cannot remove excess skin or provide the structural change of a surgical face or neck lift.

When treatment needs to be deferred

Open wounds, lesions or severe acne in the area and certain implants may prevent treatment. Disclose pregnancy, breastfeeding, medicines and all previous procedures so the clinician can check the applicable restrictions.

Ultherapy PRIME device and illustrative facial treatment areas

There is no single “best age”. The concern, skin and anatomy matter more than an age-based package. You can discuss options without committing to treatment.

Make an informed comparison

Ultherapy PRIME vs Thermage, XERF, Sofwave and HIFU

A useful comparison looks at technology, the concern being assessed, likely limitations, comfort, recovery and cost. There is no universally best device for every face.

Ultrasound and radiofrequency

Ultherapy PRIME vs Thermage FLX

Ultherapy PRIME uses microfocused ultrasound with imaging. Thermage FLX uses radiofrequency. Both may be discussed in a firmness consultation, but they deliver energy differently and should not be treated as interchangeable plans.

Ask how your treatment area, skin and expectations influence the recommendation, and what discomfort, risks and follow-up apply to each option.

Read the Thermage FLX vs Ultherapy PRIME guide or explore Thermage FLX.

Different approaches to firmness

Ultherapy PRIME vs XERF

XERF is a radiofrequency platform; Ultherapy PRIME uses ultrasound with visualisation. The relevant question is which approach fits your concern and anatomy, rather than which device is newer or more widely discussed.

Discuss the intended treatment area, evidence, likely magnitude of change and the alternatives if little improvement occurs.

Compare XERF, Ultherapy PRIME and Sofwave or visit our XERF treatment guide.

Two ultrasound platforms

Ultherapy PRIME vs Sofwave

Both use ultrasound, but the delivery approach and treatment features differ. Ultherapy PRIME incorporates real-time visualisation; Sofwave uses a different ultrasound platform. A shared energy category does not mean identical treatment.

Your clinician can explain what those differences mean for your skin, treatment area, comfort and recovery preferences.

Explore Sofwave in Sydney and use the three-treatment comparison guide to prepare questions.

A brand and a technology category

Ultherapy PRIME vs other HIFU devices

HIFU describes high-intensity focused ultrasound, rather than one standard device. Systems can differ in imaging, applicators, treatment settings, evidence and intended uses. Ultherapy PRIME is a specific microfocused ultrasound system with visualisation.

Ask for the exact device name and the rationale for the plan. Shot counts across different devices are not a reliable like-for-like comparison.

Read about HIFU treatments in Sydney.

What about RF microneedling? Morpheus8 uses needles and radiofrequency, with a different recovery profile. Texture and scarring alongside laxity need their own assessment. The broader skin-tightening guide explains these distinctions.

How much does Ultherapy PRIME cost in Sydney?

MA360 provides an individual treatment quote after assessment. A brow-focused plan and a broader under-chin and neck plan can involve different treatment scope, time and follow-up.

01 · Area

What is being treated

The size and number of areas affect planning. Confirm exactly what a quote includes rather than relying on a label such as “face” or “face and neck”.

02 · Delivery

Lines and distribution

Ultrasound treatment lines are planned for the mapped tissue and area. A line count alone does not establish suitability, quality or value.

03 · Anatomy

Your individual assessment

Skin thickness, existing volume, laxity and previous procedures can change the scope. The plan should explain why the selected approach fits your concern.

04 · Appointment

Who provides your care

Ask who assesses and performs the treatment, what preparation and comfort planning are included, and how questions or concerns are managed afterwards.

05 · Follow-up

Review and future care

Clarify whether follow-up is included and whether further treatment would involve a separate fee. Maintenance should be reconsidered after reviewing your response.

06 · Other concerns

A separate treatment plan

If another concern needs attention, any additional procedure should have its own explanation, suitability assessment, consent, timing and clearly itemised price.

Before comparing quotes: confirm the device, area, treatment scope, practitioner and follow-up. Ask the clinic to confirm the consultation fee and its terms for your appointment type. A consultation does not guarantee or require same-day treatment.

Realistic expectations

Results, timing and the limits of treatment

Agree on what would count as a worthwhile change for you before treatment. Improvement should be assessed against your starting point, not a promise of a particular look.

Change develops gradually

Firmness is assessed over the following months. The early appearance can be influenced by temporary swelling, so an immediate photograph is not a reliable final result.

Duration varies

The Australian manufacturer describes results that may last up to 12 months. This is not a guarantee for an individual. Your skin, starting point and response influence the review plan.

More is not always better

Little benefit, unsuitable anatomy or significant excess skin may lead to a different recommendation, including no further device treatment. Ageing continues after treatment.

Understanding treatment photographs: a useful comparison identifies the actual treatment, timing and any other procedures. Results from a different procedure should not be presented as Ultherapy PRIME results. Our face and neck case-study collection covers different treatment pathways; check the details of each example.

Evidence and transparency

What does the research tell us?

A systematic review and meta-analysis of 42 studies found reported improvement and patient satisfaction after microfocused ultrasound with visualisation. It also reported moderate pain and temporary effects such as redness, swelling, bruising and tenderness.

The authors identified limitations, including possible overestimation of satisfaction. The review reports Merz Aesthetics funding. Evidence across earlier systems and study populations does not guarantee an individual outcome or prove that PRIME is better than every alternative.

Read the review and its limitations on PubMed (opens in a new tab).

Comfort · recovery · safety

Ultherapy side effects and recovery

Non-surgical treatment still involves risk. Your clinician should explain what is relevant to the proposed area, medical history and treatment plan.

Discomfort and temporary effects

Heat, prickling or deeper tenderness may occur during treatment. Redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness or altered sensation can follow. Ask about comfort options and allow flexibility around important events.

Other reported complications

Manufacturer safety information includes burns, scarring, pigment changes, unwanted volume loss and nerve-related effects. Post-market reports do not establish a reliable frequency or cause in every case. Imaging does not eliminate risk.

Before your appointment

Bring details of medicines, implants, skin conditions and previous procedures. Tell the clinician about pregnancy or breastfeeding. Do not stop prescribed medicine without advice from the clinician who manages it.

Read the manufacturer instructions and safety information (PDF; opens in a new tab). The treating clinician must use the instructions applicable to the actual device and local treatment setting.

Facial rejuvenation planning

A plan for the whole concern

Skin laxity can sit alongside changes in volume, facial movement, pigmentation or texture. A consultation should identify these separately so one treatment is not expected to solve everything.

If more than one approach is discussed, ask what each part is intended to achieve, whether the sequence matters and how the additional risks, recovery and costs affect your decision.

Explore the skin and facial concern directory or the Sydney skin-tightening overview before your appointment.

Your questions answered

Ultherapy PRIME Sydney FAQs

Use these answers to prepare for a consultation. Individual assessment determines whether treatment is appropriate and what your plan involves.

Does Ultherapy PRIME really work?

Research on microfocused ultrasound with visualisation reports improvement in selected patients, but the size of the change varies. Some people may see limited benefit. Read the evidence section and ask what improvement is realistic for your concern.

Is Ultherapy a non-surgical facelift?

It is sometimes described as non-surgical lifting or tightening. It cannot remove excess skin or reproduce the structural change of a surgical facelift. If you are searching for non-surgical facelift options in Sydney, begin with an assessment of the degree and cause of the change.

When do results appear, and how long do they last?

Change develops gradually over the months after treatment. The manufacturer describes possible effects lasting up to 12 months, but there is no fixed duration for everyone. Agree on an appropriate review time rather than assuming an automatic maintenance schedule.

What is the best age to start Ultherapy?

There is no universal starting age. Your degree of laxity, skin, health, previous procedures and goals guide suitability. An age-based antiageing package cannot replace that assessment.

Is Ultherapy PRIME painful?

It can be uncomfortable. People may notice heat, sharpness, prickling or deeper tenderness. Sensitivity varies by area and individual. Discuss comfort planning before consenting; the treatment should not be presented as universally painless.

How many sessions will I need?

A single session followed by review may be proposed, but this is not a fixed prescription. The area, starting point and response determine whether any additional treatment is appropriate.

Can I return to work straight away?

Some people resume usual activities promptly, while others have visible or uncomfortable effects. Ask about your expected recovery and allow flexibility around work, travel and important events. See risks and recovery.

Can Ultherapy help with jowls or a double chin?

Assessment separates loose skin from under-chin fullness, deeper support and other causes of a softer jawline. Skin tightening is not a substitute for significant fat reduction or the removal of excess skin.

Can Ultherapy cause unwanted facial volume loss?

Unwanted volume loss is included among manufacturer post-market reports. Your clinician should consider existing facial volume, previous treatment and anatomy when discussing risk and suitability. Reported events do not establish a frequency for your individual situation.

Is Ultherapy PRIME the same as HIFU?

Ultherapy PRIME is a specific system with ultrasound visualisation. HIFU is a broader category containing different devices. Compare the exact system and treatment plan in the Ultherapy vs HIFU section.

Is Ultherapy better than Thermage, XERF or Sofwave?

There is no single best choice for every person. The technologies and treatment approaches differ. Our comparison section explains the questions to discuss before choosing a device.

What affects Ultherapy PRIME prices in Sydney?

The area, planned scope, practitioner care and follow-up affect the quote. Different areas and line counts are not equivalent packages. See the cost section and request a personalised quote rather than assuming an online headline price applies to you.

How long does the appointment take?

Time depends on the assessment, area and treatment mapping. Ask the team for an estimate for your appointment type. A consultation and a treatment booking may require different amounts of time.

Can I have treatment on the consultation day?

Do not assume same-day treatment. Suitability, appointment availability, preparation and the opportunity to consider your options affect timing. Confirm the process when booking.

Can I combine Ultherapy with other procedures?

Sometimes more than one concern needs attention, but combining treatments is not automatic. Previous procedures can affect safety and timing. Each proposed component needs a separate rationale, assessment and consent.

Can I book at either Chatswood or Hurstville?

You can request a consultation at either clinic. Select your preferred location in the enquiry form and mention Ultherapy PRIME. The team confirms the practitioner, treatment availability and appointment address.
