Understand your skin

The right treatment begins with the scar.

Acne scarring, post-acne marks and enlarged pores can look similar. They need different care.

At MA360 Hurstville, we assess the depth and shape of each scar, along with active acne, skin sensitivity and pigment risk. A mixed pattern may need treatment in stages.

Our aim is to soften the appearance of scars and improve texture where possible. Complete acne scar removal is not a realistic promise.

Colour or texture? Flat brown or red marks may be post-acne pigmentation or redness. Indentations, pits and wave-like depressions are structural scars.

Read our Sydney acne scar treatment guide
  1. 01

    Ice pick scars

Narrow, deep pits. These often need focused scar treatment; resurfacing alone may not address their full depth.

  2. 02

    Boxcar scars

Broader depressions with defined edges. Shallow scars may suit laser resurfacing; deeper scars can need an additional targeted approach.

  3. 03

    Rolling scars

Wave-like depressions, sometimes held down by fibrous attachments. We assess tethering before deciding whether RF microneedling, resurfacing or another approach is appropriate.

  4. 04

    Marks, pores & roughness

Colour changes and enlarged pores may need pigment, redness or skin-quality treatment alongside a scar plan.

Laser resurfacing & RF microneedling

Acne scar treatment options
at MA360 Hurstville.

Morpheus8, CO2 laser and erbium YAG laser work differently. Scar depth, skin tone and the recovery you can accommodate help guide the choice.

01

Radiofrequency microneedling

Morpheus8 for acne scars

Morpheus8 combines microneedles with radiofrequency energy to support remodelling beneath the skin surface. It may be considered for selected textural scars, pores and mixed acne scarring.

Explore Morpheus8 treatment
When it may be considered
Mixed texture and scarring where controlled treatment depth and collagen remodelling are relevant.
What makes it different
Morpheus8 is RF microneedling, not a laser. Tethered or deep focal scars may need another treatment as part of the plan.
Recovery considerations
Redness, swelling, tenderness and temporary needle or grid marks can occur. Settings and skin response influence recovery.
02

Fractional ablative resurfacing

CO2 laser resurfacing

Fractional CO2 laser, including eCO2, treats small columns of skin to resurface selected scarred areas. It may help soften the edges of suitable pitted scars and improve uneven texture.

Explore eCO2 laser resurfacing
When it may be considered
Selected boxcar scars, pitted cheek scars and more pronounced surface irregularity.
What makes it different
An ablative laser pathway with a heat effect around the treated areas. Intensity is matched to the skin and scar pattern.
Recovery considerations
Visible redness, swelling, crusting or peeling may require planned downtime and wound care. More intensive treatment usually means more recovery.
03

Erbium YAG / Er:YAG

Erbium YAG laser resurfacing

Erbium YAG laser resurfacing removes controlled amounts of skin at the surface. Fractional Er:YAG treatment may be considered for shallow pitted scars, defined scar edges and mixed surface texture.

Explore Fotona Er:YAG laser
When it may be considered
Superficial boxcar scars, finer pitting and uneven skin texture where precise resurfacing is appropriate.
What makes it different
A different laser tissue interaction from CO2. The treatment mode, depth and density matter more than the device name alone.
Recovery considerations
Redness, swelling and peeling can occur. Deeper resurfacing still needs recovery time; erbium does not automatically mean minimal downtime.

When colour is part of the concern

Pico, BBL & LaseMD

Post-acne pigmentation, redness and skin quality may need a separate pathway. These options are assessed for your skin and should not be assumed to correct deep indentation.

PicoSure, BBL light treatment or LaseMD may be discussed alongside your scar plan. Active acne may need to be brought under control first.

No single device is suitable for everyone. Treatment recommendations, settings, session numbers and expected recovery require a clinical assessment.

Your treatment & recovery

A measured plan.
Time for your skin to respond.

Acne scar treatment is usually a process. We plan the sequence, discuss recovery and review how your skin responds before deciding what comes next.

  1. 01 / ASSESS

    Understand your skin

Review your scar pattern, skin tone, active acne, medical history and previous treatments.

  2. 02 / PLAN

    Make the options clear

Discuss suitable approaches, alternatives, expected improvement, risks, downtime and cost.

  3. 03 / TREAT

    Choose with care

Use the agreed treatment and settings, with preparation and aftercare tailored to your skin.

  4. 04 / REVIEW

    Allow time to heal

Review recovery and gradual changes before adjusting your next treatment or maintenance plan.

Plan for recovery

Downtime varies with the procedure, depth, density and area treated. You may need time away from makeup, exercise or social activities. Your clinician will give specific guidance on cleansing, sun protection and when to resume your usual routine.

Understand the risks

Possible effects include redness, swelling, discomfort, peeling and pigment changes. Burns, infection, prolonged redness and scarring can also occur. RF microneedling also carries risks of unintended fat loss and nerve injury. Risk depends on the procedure, settings, skin and healing response.

Tell your clinician about medicines, recent isotretinoin, cold sores, raised scars and previous pigment changes. Darker or pigment-prone skin needs careful assessment and planning.

What is the best acne scarring treatment in Hurstville?

The most suitable treatment depends on scar type, depth, skin tone and recovery needs. At MA360 Hurstville, assessment may lead to Morpheus8 RF microneedling, CO2 laser, erbium YAG resurfacing or a staged combination. Deep or tethered scars may require a different targeted approach.

Is Morpheus8 (Morpheus 8) a laser treatment?

No. Morpheus8 uses microneedles and radiofrequency energy, rather than laser light. It may be considered for selected acne scars, uneven texture and pores. It is different from CO2 and erbium YAG laser resurfacing, and suitability requires assessment.

Is CO2 laser better than erbium YAG laser for acne scars?

Neither is automatically better. CO2 and erbium YAG lasers interact with the skin differently, and results and recovery depend on the treatment mode, depth, density and scar pattern. Your clinician will compare the options in the context of your skin and downtime preferences.

How much downtime does acne scar resurfacing involve?

Recovery depends on the procedure and settings. RF microneedling may cause redness, swelling and temporary needle marks. Ablative CO2 or erbium YAG resurfacing can involve peeling, crusting and more visible recovery. Ask for an individual downtime estimate and aftercare plan before treatment.

Can laser resurfacing be used on Asian or darker skin tones?

Some people with Asian, darker or pigment-prone skin may be suitable, but skin tone alone does not determine the treatment. A history of pigment changes, skin condition, device settings and aftercare all matter. Pigmentation risks and alternatives should be discussed before proceeding.

Can acne scars be completely removed?

Treatment usually aims to soften scars and improve texture rather than remove every scar. Improvement varies with the scar pattern, treatment and healing response. The before-and-after photographs on this page are individual examples, not predictions of your result.

Can PicoSure or BBL help with post-acne marks?

PicoSure or BBL may be considered when pigmentation or redness is a main concern. These colour changes are different from deep structural scars. Assessment helps determine whether a colour-focused treatment, a scar treatment or a staged combination is suitable.

How many acne scar treatment sessions will I need?

There is no fixed number that suits everyone. The number and spacing of sessions depend on scar depth, the chosen treatment and how your skin responds. Your plan is reviewed over time rather than assuming that more sessions or stronger settings are always better.

How much does acne scar treatment cost in Hurstville?

Pricing depends on treatment area, scar complexity, technology, intensity and the number of planned sessions. An individual quote is discussed after assessment. A consultation fee may apply; please confirm the current fee with the MA360 team when booking.
